I’ve been been searching for a concise statement that sums up man’s relationship to technology for some time. Whilst it has a slightly convoluted sentence construction, I quite like this one:

Technology is not new: homo habilis, the toolmaker, was a critical stage in the evolution of homo sapiens. From the beginning technology in the best sense of the Greek root word techne, has been a functional adaptation, the making and using of tools to both survive in and transform our surroundings.
